Frequently Asked Questions

Is WVSC a licensed camp?
WVSC is licensed by the state of NH to run a Youth Recreation Camp. During operation we are inspected each year by a state inspector and again in 2008 we received an overall rating of Excellent due to our “Super programs, facility and staff”, “excellent accommodations” and “excellent medical coverage”. Click here to read the complete report.

Where will campers stay?
Campers will be housed at the Snowy Owl Inn, a classic New England inn, which is centrally located in the Valley. All rooms are loft rooms and have a bathroom and A/C. There will be 3 other campers and at least one counselor in the room as well.

What is food like?
If you are expecting institutional quality meals at WVSC you will be disappointed!! Consistent with our philosophy of developing healthy lifestyles for kids, we are extremely fortunate to have a chef such as Susan Brunvard preparing healthy and nutritious meals here at the Sports for a Lifetime Academy. A student of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, Susan was head chef at the famous Rangeley Inn in Rangeley, Maine for nearly 20 years. Each day starts with a choice of a hot breakfast entree or cereal. Lunch and dinner are served buffet style outdoors with two entrees served. Fruits and salads are always available

What immunizations are required?
WVSC follows the State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, guidelines for schools. To view a copy of the current immunization requirements CLICK HERE

Do campers need to bring any equipment?
WVSC recommends that if you have a helmet, mountain bike or tennis racquet to bring it to camp. Also, if you have any equipment that you feel more comfortable using such as golf clubs, ice skates etc., bring those as well. WVSC will provide tennis racquets and golf clubs. Mountain bike rentals are available for an additional fee.

Do the campers need to have played golf/tennis/biking/swimming before?
No, WVSC’s philosophy is to provide the quality of instruction typically found in a intensive sports camp but not the quantity. All of our programs are designed to accommodate all levels. If any camper would like to spend additional time practicing any sports or just playing with a friend, those opportunities are available during the free choice activity sessions. If a camper would rather participate in an additional activities such as ice skating, canoeing/kayaking or basketball, those opportunities would also be available during those times.

What is the camper/counselor ratio?
The camper and counselor ratio is 3 to 1.

How are the campers divided for day time activities?
The campers are separated into co-ed groups of 8 to 10 primarily by age and to a lesser degree by ability and maturity.

Who are your counselors?
Minimum requirement for resident counselors is at least one year of college. Approximately 50% of our counselors are adults with extensive experience teaching children.

Where do parents stay during parents weekend?
Parents can stay at one of several properties located right in Waterville Valley. See our web site for more information. It is recommended you make your reservations thru WVSC to take advantage of our special rates.

Should my child bring a cell phone/ipod?
NO, you can call home twice a week; a phone can be made available for that purpose. If you are traveling and are taking a cell phone for security during the trip we ask that you give it to us for safekeeping during your time at WVSC
