WVSC Staff & Instructor Profiles

Waterville Valley's stellar facilities, combined with exceptional instruction sets WVSports Camp apart from the rest. You will find programs suitable for beginner and intermediate players alike, all under the direction of the Waterville Valley pros. The staff will include counselors from all over the world, representing their native country on Waterville Valley Sports Camp’s International Day.

Instructor Profiles

Karen Turman - Director of Tennis
Karen has been teaching tennis at summer camps since age 16, and currently teaches at the Carrollwood Village Golf and Tennis Club in Tampa. She is a USPTA Pro, a national clinician, a participant in the USTA Schools Program, a National Tennis Rating Program rater and a USRSA stringer. Karen graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., where she played varsity tennis. In high school she was an Ohio state doubles champion, and competed in the nationals her junior and senior years.

Jon Wood – Director of Golf
Jon is an award winning PGA member with over 30 years experience in the golf business. He won the 2004 NHPGA Junior Golf Leader Award, has been a High School Golf Coach for 6 years, and a member of the New Hampshire Golf Course Superintendents Association for 13 years. Jon was a member of the winning Regional BUICK Scramble Team in 2002 and has conducted three levels of junior golf programs, with 150+ participants.

Staff Profiles

Susan Brunvand - Head Chef
Chef Susan Brunvand prepares all the meals at Waterville Valley Summer Camp. She was a student of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, and was head chef at the famous Rangeley Inn in Rangeley, Maine for nearly 20 years. Currently Susan and her husband Torr operate the Silver Fox Inn.
